Adult Fast Food Consumption

This indicator shows the percentage of adults who consumed fast food at least one time in the last week.

Why is this important?

Fast food is often high in fat and consumption is associated with increased caloric intake. Dietary intake of fatty foods and/or decreased consumption of fruits and vegetables have been identified to increase the risk of overweight/obesity. Being overweight or obese affects quality of life and puts individuals at risk for developing many diseases, especially heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and cancer. Losing weight helps to prevent and control these diseases. Being overweight or obese also carries significant economic costs due to increased healthcare spending and lost earnings.
